SERVE. UPLIFT. INSPIRE THE NEXT GENERATION.

Help guide young inner city young men toward confidence, purpose and leadership through presence, consistency and example.

WHY MENTORS MATTER!

Our youth don’t need us to be perfect! They need us to be present!

Many of our young men are navigating life without consistent guidance, safe spaces to speak, or examples of healthy manhood. At Helping Inspire Men (H.I.M.), mentors don’t fix boys, they walk with them. Your presence, patience, and integrity can shape a young man’s confidence for life.

WHAT MENTORSHIP LOOKS LIKE AT H.I.M.

  • Participating in bi-weekly sessions with boys ages 8–18.

  • Mentors are expected to demonstrate integrity, accountability and respect. Mentors should be able to showcase strengths while also openly acknowledging our mistakes and model taking responsibility for our actions. We show accountability is about growth, not punishment.

  • We encourage open dialogue with the absence of shame, rejection or guilt. We validate and uplift our youth while also correcting their actions.

  • We show up in community and support service projects and the young men completing the rites of passage program.

  • We treat our youth as the author of their lives. We partner with them and treat them as owners of their development rather than subjects of control. We involve them in decision-making, inform them of benefits and consequences of their actions and respect their decisions.

  • We help our boys identify and express emotions in the healthiest way possible. We normalize discussions and activities around conflict resolution, boundaries and mental health.
